Updates to Enjoy on the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek

At a quick glance, the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is nearly identical to the 2016 model year. There is only a very mild increase in price and the hybrid powertrain has been dropped. To help the 2017 Crosstrek stand out, Subaru added a Special Edition model. It is based on the Premium trim with the CVT, which already has heated seats and side mirrors, leather on the steering wheel, a touchscreen, and more.

The Special Edition trim builds on those features but only offers a Pure Red or Crystal Black Silica exterior. Either color has blackout accent trim along with badging. The Crosstrek Special Edition sits on 17-inch gray-colored aluminum wheels and the black cloth interior features contrasting red stitching. The theme continues with red ambient lighting on the footwell. This trim also adds keyless entry, push-button ignition, aluminum pedal covers, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring. Combined, these features enhance the overall driving experience.

How the Subaru Crosstrek Has Changed Over the Years

The Crosstrek hit the market ready and able to trail blaze. The Subaru Crosstrek has been around since 2013 when it debuted as the XV Crosstrek. It was built on the same platform as the Impreza but with more rugged styling and practicality. It came standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, the Boxer Subaru engine, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, plus 51.9 cubes of interior space. The 2-liter Boxer 4-cylinder was available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT that featured a manual shift mode. For the 2014 XV Crosstrek, Subaru improved sound reduction engineering.

In 2015, a rearview camera became standard while the Starlink multimedia system and Eyesight driver assistance became available. That model year also got a new base trim level while specific features of the multimedia system included a 6.2-inch touchscreen used by the backup camera.

The system worked with iPods, MP3s, iHeartRadio, and Pandora. The Limited trims got an enhanced Starlink system with a 7-inch touchscreen. For the 2016 model year, Subaru officially dropped the "XV", leaving the XV Crosstrek as just the Crosstrek. This change in name also came with revisions to the front fascia.
