Benefits of Choosing a Hybrid Vehicle
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) combine a traditional combustion engine and electric motor to make use of the benefits of both. The electric motor and battery provide extra power, reduce engine idling when stopped, and release low tail pipe emissions. The power contribution from the electric motor also allows for a smaller combustion engine without sacrificing performance. Despite the benefits in power and performance, HEVs tend to be more expensive than traditional gas-powered vehicles. However, some of the extra cost upfront may be recovered in fuel savings or tax credit incentives.
What’s New in the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid?
The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid comes with exciting upgrades from the engine to the driver’s seat. The hybrid engine puts out 194 combined horsepower–made possible by its series-parallel hybrid powertrain and 2.5-L SUBARU BOXER® engine and electric motor. Besides its power contribution, the design and placement of the SUBARU BOXER® engine in the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid maximizes stability and provides a smoother drive. This engine is also capable of regeneration (or regenerative braking).
Regenerative braking converts the kinetic energy from the car’s momentum into electricity which can be used to recharge the hybrid’s battery when driving at low speeds. This way energy that would otherwise be wasted gets used. This model will also come equipped with standard symmetrical all-wheel drive.
On the inside, drivers can enjoy the award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, a 12.3-in digital gauge cluster, and a 11.6-in, tablet-style SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia System. This model is expected to be officially released in fall of 2025. Contact your local Subaru dealership for updates.
