Here at Subaru of Macon, we're starting to feel the madness brewing. Last night was Selection Sunday, meaning that 68 men's and women's teams from the world of college basketball officially punched their ticket into this season's big tournament.
That got us thinking: what would a March Madness tournament of Subarus look like? We seeded the eight top-selling Subaru vehicles using their total sales numbers from 2023 to give our thoughts.
(1) Outback (161,8314 units sold in 2023) vs. (8) Solterra (8,872 units)

The increasingly popular Outback (barely) overtook the Crosstrek in 2023 sales, and it's easy to see why. Its sense of wonder and adventure has only grow since it was introduced way back in 1995, making it the current undisputed King (Lebron James aside).
On the other side of the bracket, the Solterra EV completed its first full year with a respectable 8,000+ vehicles sold. As the popularity of EVs continues to steadily grow, we're sure we'll see the Solterra climb up the bracket in the years to come.
(2) Crosstrek (159,193) vs. (7) WRX (24,681)

The Crosstrek may have lost its top-seed crown to the Outback, but the spunky compact SUV still has the goods to go all the way this year. After all, that's what you're doing every time you set off on a trip in the reliable Crosstrek: going all the way.
Meanwhile, the WRX was the lone performance-based vehicle to make our tourney. It's clearly becoming a favorite amongst sporty owners, as the WRX saw a 32% sales increase - the highest jump outside of the Forester.
(3) Forester (152,566) vs. (6) Legacy (25,510)

Speaking of the Forester, it clocks in at #3 in our bracket after another big year. Its 152,000+ sales saw an impressive spike of 34 percent. With ample storage space and off-road confidence, the Forester has firmly established itself as a king of versatility.
Near the middle of the bracket seems an appropriate spot for the always-reliable Legacy. The midsize AWD sedan drew rave reviews for its 2024 model with increased spaciousness and an abundance of tech features.
(4) Ascent (60,643) vs. (5) Impreza (30,846)

With the clear top-3 off the board, the Ascent is the next in line to make some waves this March. Though not as sales-dominant as the preceding three SUVs, the Ascent continues to add an array of new safety features, trims, styled accents, and more with every model year.
But it could face an early exit at the hands of the Impreza, who remained just as sleek and sytlish as ever despite going hatchback-only for 2024. We're not here to play favorites, but based on the eye-test alone, the Impreza could score some serious upset points in our tourney.
